I have just stumbled across the monthly ekphrasis* challenge on Rattle‘s website. Each month, they post a picture of a piece of art, inviting responses in poetry form. For this month’s image, click here. New image each month. (*ekphrasis is where one artform responds to another.)
Month: March 2017
Allegro seeking submissions
Another new one to me, Allegro is an online poetry magazine, published four times a year. The magazine has strict submission windows, so check the dates on the website before you submit. The current deadline is 30 April 2017, for poems of up to 40 lines, on the theme of ‘Space’. Read the full guidelines here before submitting.
Mental Health Writing wanted
The Perch is an online, ‘non-academic’ literary magazine from the Yale Program for Recovery and Community Health. For the next issue, send up to 3 poems of up to 80 lines each by 15 May 2017. Don’t put your name on the files. Full details here.
Banshee lit mag
You have until 31 March 2017 to submit to issue 3 (Autumn/Winter 2017) of print journal Banshee. Submit up to 6 poems of no more than 40 lines each. More info here.
Black and Asian writers wanted
Peepal Tree Press is based in Leeds, UK – but publishes work from all over the Caribbean diaspora, so international submissions are welcome. They also ‘welcome and support Black British writers’ – i.e. British writers of African and Asian descent. As well as novels, short story collections and nonfiction, the press accepts poetry collections of 48 pages or more. Peepal Tree Press publishes in print and ebook formats. More information here.
Pet poems wanted
UK-based South West Writers are inviting submissions to their anthology, Pet Memories. There is no website (that I can find – let me know if you find one!). Poems should be a maximum of 32 lines in length, and should be typed. There is no limit to the number of poems you can submit. Deadline is end of April 2017. Email: southwestwriters@yahoo.com
