The Alchemy Spoon
This new UK-based poetry magazine is open to submissions of poems for its first issue (up to 3 per poet) until 30 June 2020. International submissions are welcome. The Alchemy Spoon will appear three times per year and will be available in online and print-on-demand formats. The editors are especially interested in work by ‘new phase’ poets – those who have come to poetry later in life. The theme for issue 1 is ‘Time’. Beyond the Storm comp
Act quickly: deadline is 23:59 BST on 19 June 2020! Write Out Loud poetry organisation has secured Andrew McMillan as the judge for its competition to raise funds for the NHS (National Health Service). Poems should be about the lockdown and beyond. Butcher’s Dog magazine
Poets based in the UK or Republic of Ireland are invited to submit to issue 14 of Butcher’s Dog print poetry magazine. Send up to 3 unpublished poems, of up to 40 lines each, in a single document. Deadline: midnight on 30 June 2020. Read full submission info here.
Door = Jar
The wonderfully-titled Door is a Jar magazine welcomes submissions that steer ‘away from academic writing’; it ‘publishes short, conversational works that use familiar language’. In other words, accessibility is key. The editors encourage familiarising oneself with previous issues – which can be done via Kindle – before submitting. Each poem (to a maximum of five) should not exceed one page in length. Only submit previously unpublished work. Full details here.
